Robots have risen, and they’ve come for our jobs. Millions of jobs. The World Economic Forum forecasts that by 2025, machines will perform more current work tasks than humans. Even before then – by 2023 – 75 million jobs stand to be replaced by automation, while 58 million net new jobs will be created. At least 14% of the global workforce may need to switch occupational categories to keep pace with demand. Quite simply, this is a change unrivaled at any point in human history.
It’s not just new technical skills that are needed. It’s also the uniquely human professional skills that artificial intelligence can’t supply (and which are persistently difficult to scale): adaptability, creativity, empathy, critical thinking.
