Leading Across Functions in the Age of AI: Building the Judgment Leaders Need

AI can make individuals dramatically more productive, but that productivity does not automatically translate into better organizational decisions. As AI moves work and information across teams faster, leaders still have to weigh tradeoffs, navigate ambiguity, influence across functions, and create alignment.

That makes cross-functional leadership an increasingly important focus for HR and L&D leaders. In this session, Abilitie CEO Bjorn Billhardt and Product Director Jonathan Schneider will explore how AI is changing the way teams make decisions and what that means for how organizations develop and support leaders. Drawing on 25 years of experiential leadership development, they will show how realistic, business simulations give leaders the opportunity to practice judgment, navigate tradeoffs, and make decisions under pressure rather than simply consuming more content.

Attendees will leave with practical ways to build judgment and make the case for this shift with executive stakeholders.

Join us to learn:

  • Analyze where AI-driven productivity can create new challenges for coordination, decision-making, and accountability across teams.
  • Evaluate where human skills still make the difference when AI can produce the answers, from knowing when to act to getting other functions to move with you.
  • Examine how practice-based, cross-functional leadership simulations can help leaders develop judgment in situations that reflect the complexity of real work.
